ARISE Park

Business thinking, strategy, & branding

Problem: The Desire neighborhood in New Orleans was devastated by Hurricane Katrina 14 years ago and sadly was never restored. There are abandoned homes, unpaved roads, and unkempt vegetation.

Solution: Arise Park and Community Center. The first step in restoration is to start with people. This park and community center is a safe haven for this community to embrace their rich history and culture that was washed away, both physically and metaphorically.

FLOOD PROTECTION
Because the Desire neighborhood is a flood-prone area, the Arise park is strategically located on the perimeter to act as a protective barrier. The park contains vegetated swales, which are sloped areas designed to capture and treat stormwater and allow it to soak into the ground at a slower rate.
